My goal in this position is to help the children of Hertford Grammar School grow as learners and individuals. I believe that we should all strive to improve who we are every single day and this position offers me the opportunity to share this passion with the children of Hertford Grammar School.
I began my career in education in 1994 as 6th grade AIG teacher in Durham Public Schools after graduating from North Carolina State University. During this time, I completed the county AIG training. In 1999, I moved back home to Perquimans County and taught 5th grade right here at Hertford Grammar School for two years. I then taught 7th and 8th grade at Perquimans Middle School while earning my Master of Library Science degree from East Carolina University. In 2006, I became the media coordinator at Perquimans Middle School and later earned my National Board Certification in Library Media and was accepted into the Educational Leadership EdD program at East Carolina University. After two years of driving back and forth to Greenville twice a week with three small children at home, I put my EdD on the back burner where it has remained and focused on my family and career. After that, I moved to Perquimans Central School and served as media coordinator from 2009 to 2016. During this time, I completed graduate classes at East Carolina University and added AIG to my license. I accepted the AIG Consulting Teacher position in Currituck County Schools in the fall of 2016 and worked at Moyock Elementary and Jarvisburg Elementary for a little over a year before moving to NEAAAT where I served as Instructional Facilitator and Director of Humanities and Instructional Technology. From all of these experiences I’ve learned many things, but the greatest thing I’ve learned is that when you build relationships and work together, everyone wins. I take Hertford Grammar School’s motto, “Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow” to heart. The children who walk these halls are our future leaders and I want the absolute best for them. Our mission, “The mission of Hertford Grammar School is to partner with families and community to inspire and motivate each student to achieve his/her academic and personal excellence.” speaks volumes. |
